Obtaining Medication Treatment for ADHD at USC

  1.  Students who are already taking medications for ADHD have the option to continue receiving prescription medications from their previous providers.  Prescriptions can be sent to the on-campus USC Student Health Pharmacy (p) (803)777-5372
  2. Students may establish care with a new community provider in Columbia. Prescriptions can be sent to the on-campus USC Student Health Pharmacy (p) (803)777-5372
  3. Students desiring to pursue medical management at SHWB, must first provide medical records documenting an appropriate ADHD assessment and diagnosis including:
    • Diagnostic statement from a psychologist or other mental health professional who is licensed to conduct psychological assessments to diagnose ADHD.
    • Diagnosis must meet DSM criteria for ADHD
    • Details on how the diagnosis was made (interview, medical history, psychological assessment, screening scores, behavioral rating scales, etc.)
    • Age at onset of symptoms
    • Description of how other conditions causing inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity were ruled out
    • Treatment plan (current and past medications)
    • A statement of how ADHD affects the student’s life.
  4. Students should submit documentation 30 days before needing medication refill.  Delays in arrival of your medical records will delay your medical care.
    • Fax (866)2452537
    • Upload: MyHealthspace patient portal
    • SHWB will review records within 5 business days and notify students of the status of their request

Obtaining an evaluation for ADHD

  1. Students who have never been evaluated for ADHD can call the SHWB office at 803-777-3175 to schedule an appointment with either a medical provider or counselor. Students may also receive an assessment at one of the community practices listed on the ADHD Assessment Resources.

ADHD Assessment Resources

This resource list does not imply a recommendation by USC. As a consumer, it is your responsibility to discuss details of services including:

  • Number of visits the evaluation may require
  • Estimated cost of the assessment
  • Whether or not the provider accepts insurance
  • How soon after the assessment the report will be made available

If you require a community-based provider for formal assessment or treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the most efficient method to identify such a provider is through Thriving Campus. This digital platform helps locate community mental health professionals who offer ADHD evaluations and interventions.

Thriving Campus allows users to filter providers by specialization, geographic proximity, accepted insurance plans, and availability, enabling a tailored search to meet individual needs. For further assistance in identifying a suitable provider, don't hesitate to contact us at 803-777-5223.
